This fabulous example measures 6 feet 5 inches long by 4 feet 7 inches wide (1.95x 1.40 metres) The busy market town of Shiraz in South Western Iran is where many Qashqai tribes people have settled. Shiraz rugs consequently have many similarities to Qashqai types in both colour and design. However, Shiraz type weaving has a tendency to be of a medium quality with a deep pile and lustrous wools. This particular piece is finely woven for it's type. The rug features a high quality wool which has been closely woven on a strong woollen foundation. The design is typical of Shiraz weaving with it's two or three central medallions with a heavily decorated field featuring stylised trees plants and desert birds. Having said that weave, design and materials are all of a fine quality the best feature of the rug is, in my opinion, it's colours. The warm red ground is really special and the overall wash and finish of the rug is truly fabulous! The colours harmonise very well together and I feel make this particular piece extremely attractive.
