Christopher Piper Wines Vina Real Gran Reserva 2014
Brand: Christopher Piper Wines
Haro, Rioja Alavesa Bright ruby, cherry red with good colour structure. Extremely elegant on the nose, balancing mature, fine fruit with the toasty, spicy notes from the wood. On the palate it is rich, structured and complex. 95 % Tempranillo, 5% Graciano. In 1940 the first Vi¤a Real wines were launched. These wines were produced from grapes grown around Elciego, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa province. These vineyards, to this day are still controlled by Vi¤a Real and continue to border the 'Camino Real' or 'Royal Drive'; hence the origin of the Vi¤a Real name. The Vi¤a Real wines are modern in structure, balance and elegance, with a potential for very long ageing in bottle, this last being the main characteristic of the Rioja Alavesa province. The Vi¤a Real range is composed of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva reds with this last style only produced from very good years and a Vi¤a Real Barrel Fermented white. In 1879, two brothers set up a business in the recently flourishing trade of the wine business. C.V.N.E., Compa¤¡a Vinicola del Norte de Espa¤a (The Northern Spanish Wine Company) or la Cun‚, as it is commonly known in Haro, was created. The Cun‚ winery in Haro, is made up of a group of buildings, mostly from the 19th century and arranged around a courtyard surrounded by pavilions for the purpose of wine production, aging, and bottling and it was one of the first wineries of Rioja to bottle its own wines. In 1900, the winery had an extraordinary aging capacity of 80,000 bottles, which was most unusual at the time, as most wineries were selling their wines as soon as possible.
