Clos Floridene Blanc 2018, Graves
Brand: Clos Floridene
Denis Dubourdieu (Professor of Oenology at Bordeaux University) is one of the world's authorities on white wine making. Purchased in 1982 by Denis and his wife, Florence (hence the name!), the white wine sector of the estate now accounts for 14.7 hectares. With the bulk of the vineyard situated on the calcareous plateau of Pujols sur Ciron, in the Graves, it is ideal for Sauvignon and Semillon. This is the white Graves that many Bordeaux 'insiders' drink and we have followed it for over 15 years. Unlike some of the 2018 dry white Graves, which tend to lack freshness and balance, the Clos Floridene has great depth, poise and minerality with exciting white flower aromas and a piercingly refreshing fruit. [Drink: 2019-2023] CCNP This 21-hectare property is situated at Pujols-sur-Ciron near Barsac but in the Graves appellation and is owned by Florence and Denis Dubourdieu (hence the name!). We have always admired the tremendous dry white wines made by Dubourdieu who is Professor of Oenology at the University of Bordeaux and who is largely credited with the development of cold fermentation techniques in white wines to develop their aromatics and overall complexity. Of the 14 hectares of white wines, 50% are Semillon, 40% are Sauvignon and 10% are Muscadelle.
