With a varied geography, many different micro-climates and a vast variety of and viticultural traditions, it is not surprising that Italy can offer a full range of sparkling wine in all styles and quality. The dry Prosecco Spumante is produced in the Veneto region from Prosecco grapes using the transfer method. It is a fashionable aperitif on its own and also the inspiration for the original Bellini when combined with fresh white peach juice. A small addition of the red Raboso grape creates a rose Prosecco. The cooler Alpine regions are the source of Italy`s finer method traditional sparkling wines, often including blends of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Tank fermented sparkling wines are produced in many other of Italy`s warmer regions. These often incorporate local varieties and are simple sparkling wines, made for every day enjoyment enjoyment. This fashionable Italian sparkler is a real jewel from the Veneto region. Pale light yellow in colour with a fine mousse it is delicately fruity and slightly aromatic in bouquet. On the palate there are hints of flowers among which honey and wild apple scents are notable. It is well balanced and light. (abv 11%) These producers mean business. The impressive Casa Vinicola Botter was founded in 1928 and is still owned and run by the same family, and they are an ambitious bunch! From humble beginnings with just a 100 hectare estate, the family can now proudly boast working with producers right across Italy, including the regions of Puglia, Molise, Abruzzo and Sicily.
