Les Pends Rouge 2018, Crozes Hermitage, Domaine des Entrefaux
Brand: Domaine des Entrefaux
The ebullient and energetic François Tardy has been running this important domaine on his own since his father's (Charles) retirement in 2001. François is, unquestionably, making some of the most exciting red and white wines to be found in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. A large part (80%) of the domaine’s vines are situated on the stony hillsides known as 'Les Chassis'. In 2003, François started the long process of converting the estate to organic production and he achieved certification with the 2012 vintage. All harvesting is carried out manually and very low doses of sulphur are used. Vine treatments include infusions, composts and cover crops to cultivate healthy microorganisms in the soil and to serve as natural fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Les Pends is a top lieu-dit situated on a steep rocky hillside in Mercurol, producing (at 30hl/ha) wines of great intensity and character. The wine is fermented for 3 weeks and then aged in oak barrels between one and four years’ old.
