Lucido Catarratto 2021 Cusumano
Brand: Cusumano
Fresh, crisp white with a medium structure and mild acidity. Citrus fruit, lemon zest and citrus blossoms on the nose, along with hint of tropical fruits, herbs and sweet spices. Lovely minerality on the finish. Floral and citrus aromas followed by surprisingly Viognier'ish flavours (as grown so far South?) of spicy apricot and lemon. Very gentle acidity but perfectly judged to keep the wine crisp and fresh on the palate. Catarratto had a bad reputation as a bulk wine in the wine lake days but this wine shows what a delicious and refreshing summer white it can be when given some TLC. Like Vermentino, this is a grape variety that has taken a large step up the 'quality' ladder! The grapes are gently pressed at cold temperatures. Fermentation takes places at temperatures of 18°-20°C. The wine spends a period on the lees in stainless steel tanks.
