Pakistan Bokhara Rug Rose
Brand:
This fine hand woven rug features a design that is probably one of the most widely recognised throughout the rug world, that of the ‘Elephants Footprint’ or ‘Gul’ to give it it’s proper name. However this design is (like so many Oriental Rug designs) ‘borrowed’ from elsewhere, in this case the centuries old Turkoman Bokhara design. The design is widely perceived to have originated in Pakistan itself but in fact made its way to Pakistan via the wandering nomadic Balouchi Tribes people who, over the centuries, have occupied areas of N.E. Iran, N.W. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan as well as parts of the Caucasus. A Pakistan Bokhara is woven using fine wools usually imported from Australia or New Zealand. We are familiar with such wool types being used to make fine jumpers, cardigans and suits. However when specially washed this wool takes on such a sheen that it is understandably and frequently mistaken for silk. This finely spun wool is then densely woven on to a sturdy cotton warp (foundation) before being clipped, washed and then allowed to dry. With its high knot count, lustrous pile and solid foundation this rug will bring pleasure for many years to come. This rug measures 5 feet 4 inches long by 3 feet 2 inches wide. ( 1.63 x 0.96 metres ).
